Panoramas

So I lamented my lack of panoramas/panograms a few posts back. This had the positive effect of goosing me to do more. So here are two for you...

The Fire

Scene: Evening during the recent family reunion. Most of the family is sitting around the fire, talking about nothing in particular. So I pull out the camera phone and take this:

Been a while...

I used to post panoramas all the time - it was a great hobby.  I don't know why I haven't made any recently.  Time, I suppose.

I was in Detroit Lakes over the weekend helping my aunt stain her house.  While I break, I took some time to enjoy the view from her back deck.  A little lightbulb came on in my head and I thought 'Hey, this would make a great panorama!'.

Unfortunately, I only had my iphone with me.  The 1st and 2nd generation's iPhone camera is fairly lousy.  Getting a good picture is tricky and there's no way to correct for color changes - if the sun goes behind a cloud, for instance.  But, the scene was too pretty to miss, so I started shooting as quickly as I could.

The finaly product came out pretty nicely, I think.  You can see blurry bits and odd coloring though.  This won't be hanging in any museum, but it's still a nice scene.

St. Olaf Wind Chime Panorama

I took this pano several years ago, but never got around to finishing it, nor fixing the non-looping sound bug. It's supposed to loop the sound, but it only plays once and then quits. When it quits, you'll have to refresh the page to see it again.

This wind chime tower is a memorial to all the St. Olaf College students who have died while attending. It's one of my favorite spots in Northfield.

(Requires Quicktime - you probably have it.)

You're in Good Hands with... Paul-state?

We were on our way back to Northfield after a quick weekend at my Mom's place.  Akeley is one of the first towns that we were going through and Linnea recalled that there was *something* here, but she didn't recall exactly what."Can we go to that... thing here?"[Knowing full well what she was talking about] "What thing?"

File this under: Not Earthshaking

I was in the Northfield Subway the other day and they had these giant Christmas ornaments hanging around. They were large mirrored... uh... ornament ball-things. You know - the kind that hang on the tree.

Anyways, you probably don't know that any mirrored ball can be 'unbent' by computers into a low-quality 'panorama', of sort. Naturally, this meant that I had to take a picture of it and turn it into a parnorama. It's really not that wonderful, but it sure was easy - which is something of a personal motto.
